Dohyoung Kim Assistant Professor at KMU International Business School Kookmin University
Dohyoung Kim studies how societies build and govern the systems that power them. His research sits at the intersection of technology management, energy policy, and innovation systems, asking why technically sound solutions so often stall in practice. Energy transitions are not only engineering problems; they are questions of institutions, incentives, and who gets to decide. He examines the rules, evaluation systems, and governance arrangements that determine whether new technologies reach deployment or remain trapped in demonstration.
Before joining academia, he worked at the Korea Institute of Energy Technology Evaluation and Planning (KETEP) on national R&D program evaluation and performance management, and he continues to draw on that experience in government-commissioned research and policy advisory work. This dual vantage point — analytical and administrative — shapes his approach: he is interested in frameworks that survive contact with real institutions. His recent work spans data center siting and public acceptance, electricity system rigidity, critical minerals supply chains, and the use of AI in evidence-based policy design.
